Problem: Prevent the egg from taking damage from the water bottle.
Generate ideas:
- Include interior cushion
- Fold paper to make it bouncy.
- Use a circular shape.
- Make it fold out to support weight.
- Possibly fill with random pieces of paper to act as a cushion.

Constraints: Can only use paper and staples. Crumple zone has to support an egg and stop a water bottle filled with 8 ounces of water.
Research: How can you fold paper to make it deflect weight?

-This taught me how to fold paper in a way that it helps absorb an impact and repel the impacting object.
-We discovered the object has to be a certain size or it will not work. We tried building a smaller version of our crumple zone but it wasn't able to hold as much weight.

Possible Solutions: Connor's Square: A cube filled with random pieces of paper. Doesn't prevent egg from breaking. 47g Cylinder Spring: A hollow cylinder filled with paper folded to act as a spring. effective at protecting egg. 46g Cylinder Spring Mini: A smaller version of the Cylinder Spring. 25.5g Upside down Chinese Take-out Box: Shape of a Chinese take-out box. Sides fold out at impact to absorb weight. 7g Summary: This project was about trying to protect and egg from a water bottle falling roughly three feet onto it. We could only use paper and stables, and tried to make it as light as we could. The structure was suppose to act like a crumple zone in a car, and absorb or deflect the weight of the water bottle. We had four ideas but chose the one we felt was the best. Our crumple zone used folded paper acting as springs inside an octagon shape and absorbed the impact nicely the first time, but when we took some springs out it failed to protect the egg. Graphical Model:RedesignI would add less paper to cushion the inside of the crumple zone. We had a lot of weight on our design so hopefully this will take some of that weight away but still allow it to function.
